Energy consumption, China overtook the U.S.

China has become the largest energy consumer in the world surpassing the U.S.. According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) reported by various media organizations , in 2009 China consumed 2.252 million tonnes of oil equivalent , almost 4% more than the U.S. that have consumed 2.17 billion tonnes.

According to Zhou Xi'an, head of the General of the National Energy Administration (NEA) Chinese, but the data provided by the IEA "not very credible."

"When the IEA has come to China to publish its Energy Outlook a couple of days ago, has overestimated the energy consumption and carbon emissions in China," "We think it is due to a lack of knowledge about China, in particular the latest developments in energy saving and renewable energy. "
