Artificial life is born

For the first time has been created in the laboratory of a cell with a DNA artificial that is able to reproduce. The results of the experiment, conducted by the American scientist Craig Venter, are published in the American scientific journal Science . Venter has used a bacterium consists of a single cell, Mycoplasma mycoides , within which the DNA was present artificial constructed by Venter. The "new" bacterium was named " Mycoplasma Laboratorium ".
According to Venter this is a first step to build organisms with a DNA specific for particular tasks. For example, an organism that can capture carbon dioxide, or a body capable of eating the oil that could be helpful to limit the environmental damage in cases like the incident at the BP platform off the coast of Louisiana.
