Tv, the digital revolution

From midnight tonight in most of Sardinia, you can see TV channels of RAI, Mediaset and La7 only via digital terrestrial, the corresponding analog channels are not available since the analog transmissions were officially off.

The party, for now only in Sardinia, the so-called switch off, or the transition from analogue to digital transmission of television signals.

The digital terrestrial (Digital Terrestrial Television, DTT) offers several advantages: more channels available, better vision and better sound quality.

The transition to digital terrestrial region of Sardinia is scheduled for Oct. 31, the first in November will not be any quid more visible channel analog and Sardinia will be the first European region where the transmission switch entirely to digital. In Italy after Sardinia will be the turn of the Valle d'Aosta which should switch to digital terrestrial by the first quarter of 2009. Then in 2009 at Sydney, the Trentino-Alto Adige, at Lazio and Campania, then the other regions. The latest to switch to digital terrestrial will be Tuscany, Umbria, Sicily and Calabria in 2012.
